Sound familiar to anyone? *chuckles* CYEBDS is around two and a half years old now, and I thought it was about time for a little reflection.
The original idea for CYEBDS came to me out of the blue one day after nearly a year of writing sporadic self-indulgent hanfic offline. I think it was in an English class, we were given a set amount of time to write a descriptive paragraph - I came up with the first entry of Rhiannon's diary.
What convinced me to go online? Two things. A) my mother managed to get a free connection off our local university that she works in conjunction with, and b) a course I was taking at school at the time called History On The Internet, which gave me a basic (and I mean basic!) knowledge of HTML. Everything on this site [the old conformist] came from those rather humble beginnings. There was a time, long ago, when I swore I'd never use frames, mostly because I couldn't get the hang of them. Now, I find sites without frames a little frustrating. My, how times change.
Those who've been with me for a while know this already, but the main character, Rhiannon, is in part a reflection of myself and some of my experiences. Please note the heavy stress on in part :-).
The other day I was going through my old geocities guestbook (certainly glad I got out when I did, they've really gone downhill since the Yahoo merger, or should I say take-over?), and I find it more comforting now than depressing, remembering when I used to get 200-300 hits a day, and there was always a few new entries in the guestbook whenever I looked. I think I've had my time in the spotlight :-).
Completely off topic, I've often wondered how Amanda (Llamaesque) manages to keep her myriad of fans, even though she never updates (nudge, nudge, can I request the next chapter of 'Lived' *begging doe eyes* please?). Anyone got any ideas? I think every hanfic author'd love to hear them.
I think it's suffice to say that this story is still my best and most favourite work. And I can say honestly, that if it inspired even one person, then when I do eventually retire from the realm of hanfic, it'll be with a smile.
Diolch yn fawr and God bless,
Lauryn

'CYEBDS is a story about the power of memories. That they have the potential to spill over into the present, and what was the past, can become the future.
A story about the injustice of Life, as well as the simple joys of living.
A story about just how fragile our lives and the lives of those around us really are.
A story of Life itself . . .'
