Epilogue

I felt his hand glide over mine, and we linked fingers. Two weeks later, the entire Hanson family gathered to go to the opening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Of course, we'd be there for the next three performances too, but since this was first, it was special.

"And so shines a good deed." The man cast as Wonka was wonderful, and he'd cracked me up through the entire play. Playing off of Mac and the other kids in the show, he let loose and held the audience. Zoë was the best Oompa Loompa, of course, she sang the loudest of them all. If there ever was an Oompa Loompa who stole the show, it was her.

As Mac got into the Great Glass Elevator, I squeezed Taylor's hand. Mac had been so nervous earlier in the day, but we'd practiced his lines, so I knew he had the part down. He'd done great.

"I love the ending. It's so sweet," I whispered, and listened in.

"But don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he always wanted, Charlie," Wonka warned.

"What Mr. Wonka?"

"He lived happily ever after."

I looked up to catch Taylor's eye, and I could see through to what he was thinking. He smiled, "We could try it maybe." I put my head on his shoulder and snuggled closer. Maybe, just maybe, I'd gotten my happy ending.
