...a backstage pass
Backstage pass
Warfield Theater, San Francisco, CA
 August 4, 2000

We've all dreamed about it and for this lucky webmaster, the advantage of being an adult took precidence over crying weeping and begging. (I saw the look on his face girls, it was not impressing him..LOL)

At The Warfield Theater in San Francisco on August 4th, 2000...I got to meet Hanson. Er um...well, I got to shake their hand. For some that's all you wish, for me, I want another try, yes, greedy little woman I am, I would like to have an intelligent conversation with more than just Zac. Oh, don't get me wrong, Zac was as charming and intelligent as they come.

My first impression--really and truly? How really normal they are, they walked into the room, and here stood three teenage boys totally thrilled to be where they were and getting to do what they do.

My second impression as I walked up and got shoved into a mass of bodies for a picture by the famous Ashley (whom, BTW, better not have screwed that picture up, he was having a hard time with the camera..)was how big these guys are. I remember actually looking at the floor to see if Zac was standing on a platform or something, to no such avail. He was really that big, I am really that short. We talked, briefly, maybe a minute or more...he told me how the pictures were going to be on Hanson.net and how cool it was to be playing at the Warfield (This was a sentiment I had heard several times since they entered the room.) Isaac seemed to know the most about the history of who played there, this I only overheard because he and Taylor were spending some quality time with the Radio Station winners and disc jockeys who were also in *my group.* (They put us in groups of five for the pictures and our *time* with the guys. After Zac, looking down to Ike, (appearing to wonder what was taking him so long and why he was stuck with the short older woman) he shakes his head when he realizes that he and Taylor are occupied by the younger gals in the group. It was but just a moment when I feel my right hand being pulled down the line and look ...up to find Ike and his wonderful smile looking down at me. he states how he's glad we came for the show and thanks, right as my hand is dropped, I am literally yanked by Taylor...He will be the winner for the night for the firm handshake and eye contact award. That young man is all business. Seering blue eyes sparkling with excitement, what feels like a truly sincere thanks for being there...and it was over. I admit it, I was starstruck, I did not look back, I did not pass go, I did not collect 200 dollars.

Okay, all the sordid details: Zac was cool, he shaves, badly, but he does shave. He smells like soap (I only know this because of my proximity to him in picture, get your minds out of the gutter!) He was wearing like Ben Davis khaki's and a screen print tee in orange colors, it said something, sorry cannot tell you what. Isaac reminds me of a golden retriever puppy...big and happy. He had on ..um jeans(?) and the small floral blue/green/pink print shirt from a recent photo we have seen around. He had on Doc's with Flames on the toes...which happen to be the same my daughter was wearing that night also. Taylor is a master at his craft. He knows that this is his bread and the fans are the butter. He was dressed casually and normal, tan cords, and some sort of a green print shirt. Not that any of that mattered, all but Zac changed before they went on stage.

Oh the concert...hehe.. well it was amazing, they blew everyone away, including the Rastafarian bouncer. He had proclaimed earlier in the evening (remember now I am adult) that no *white boys* had enough rhythm to meet his standards. During the concert, during a song break and after he told my daughter to get down of the seat (oops) he saw me (about halfway through the show) and told me that he was *indeed* very impressed. he said *I will now be a Hanson fan*. He was cool, I don't know his name, wish I did. ( I believe this was after the fans jumped on Isaac's side of the stage and he ran all the way across towards Taylor, but it was before *The Taylor incident* hehe you've all read the boards you know what I mean.)

Forget writing setlists, I was too busy dancing!! All I know is that I am going to demand an album of covers. The crowning achievement of the night ( well, aside from Love Song and Song to Sing) was Zac, strutting around on stage singing *I want you to want me..I need you to need me..* You know I could swear I saw a little bit of a swaggar...

Hanson Rocks, see a show this tour at all costs. You won't be sorry
